Artist Vita: Bernd Lehmann
With his etchings, gouaches and illustrations, which have been represented in the international art house ARTES since 1996, he inspires worldwide. Perfect craftsmanship, paired with great empathy for the type and character of the things and people he depicts, give his depictions something uniquely authentic. "Nothing is just there," he says. "Everything tells a story." It is his way of familiarizing himself with the things that give his images this uniquely exciting and lively aura.

Its buyers and prospects include global companies such as Airbus Industries, Bentley Motors, Rolls-Royce and VW as well as international gallery owners, actors, musicians and conductors. With creative sensitivity, Bernd Lehmann devotes himself in thematic portfolios, book illustrations, etchings and gouaches to the portraits of great researchers, thinkers, poets, musicians and citizens of the world from different centuries. He always succeeds in capturing something of the character of the person portrayed in the picture. Poets like Joachim Ringelnatz, Thomas Mann, Ernest Hemingway, Virginia Woolf, Hermann Hesse, Hans Christian Andersen, Adelbert von Chamisso, Friedrich Rückert and Rainer Maria Rilke become scientists like Robert Koch, Emil von Behring, Paul Ehrlich and musicians like John Lennon , Johnny Cash, Miles Davis, Louis Armstrong, Astor Piazolla, Bono U2 and the painter Auguste Rodin come alive in a stimulating way in Bernd Lehmann's work.

But Bernd Lehmann doesn't just dedicate his art to people. In addition to exciting staging of musical instruments, books and lighthouses, there is an important and recurring motif: the rose, whose budding tenderness, red-blooming beauty and withering transience he knows how to depict in a magical way. Bernd Lehmann created exclusive etchings for Bentley Motors in which he captured not only the special characteristics of the noble vehicle but also the emotions that a Bentley is able to convey. For L’or capital fine art AG, the artist designed a strictly limited edition of unique original etchings with real gold plating in 24 carats. He shows beauty in motion in his etchings for the noble legend Rolls Royce and the dream of flying finds its expression in Lehmann's extraordinary Airbus etchings for the A380.

The art of crossing the border

Bernd Lehmann is a versatile artist. In search of ever new impulses, of great scope and topicality, he is fascinated by the interdisciplinary collaboration with other artists. The "art of crossing the border", the artist's ability to surrender to his projects with enthusiasm and serenity, to think networked and to have the courage to venture into the unknown over and over again, is essential for his work.

The intensive exchange with the literary scholar and manager Dr. In 2003 and 2004, Alexandra Hildebrandt created the portfolios Dir for Celebration and The Little Wine Year with etchings on Rainer Maria Rilke, in which a picture of the poet's life is revealed. The Joop meets Anderson edition was created in 2005 by Hans Christian Andersen. Dr. Alexandra Hildebrandt shows the red thread that connects the biographies of the poet and fashion designer. Biographies, the themes of being and appearances, lies and truth, death and life, find their emotional expression in Bernd Lehmann's etchings. In the shadow of a border crosser - a biographical and literary hike into romanticism, the two dedicate themselves in the usual outstanding quality to the similarities in thinking, feeling and experiencing between the romantic poet and naturalist Adelbert Chamisso and the extreme mountaineer Reinhold Messner.

In an ambitious project with the author Roland Linowski, Bernd Lehmann created the illustrations for the novel "Stille Erde" (Stille Earth), a realistic description and images of the Second World War from the perspective of those affected, etched with gloomy directness.

In 2007 Bernd Lehmann started working with the actress Brigitte Röttgers. The portfolio works Hermann Hesse - Streiflichter and The Correspondence of Virginia Woolf and Lytton Strachey, are the outstanding result. Readings of the subtle, cheerful and moving dialogues with the scientist and poet Rudolph Bauer and Brigitte Röttgers, framed by Bernd Lehmann's portraits created for the reading, turn into a very special, idiosyncratic enjoyment of art.

Joint projects with the author, actor and Ringelnatz Prize winner Achim Amme inspired Bernd Lehmann to create illustrations, gouaches and portraits of Johnny Cash, Bono, Louis Amstrong, Miles Davis and Joachim Ringelnatz. In the JAZZ style portfolio, the artist succeeds in expressing the jazz experience in all its spontaneity, vitality and improvisational spirit. Under the title REALLY FORBIDDEN bring
